Choose Your Location Wisely

Before you pick up a drill, walk around your property and consider these factors:

Water Source Proximity
Position your reel within 6 feet of your outdoor faucet. The input hose (the one connecting your faucet to the reel) should be short to minimize pressure loss. A longer input hose means weaker water flow when you're watering your garden.

Wall Strength Check
Not all walls are created equal. Tap the wall where you plan to mount—does it sound hollow or solid? Your hose reel needs a sturdy surface. Brick, concrete, and solid wood are ideal. For hollow walls or siding, you'll need to find a wall stud or use heavy-duty anchors rated for outdoor use.

Clearance Space
Ensure you have at least 80cm (about 31 inches) of clearance in front of the reel. This gives you enough room to pull the hose smoothly at a 180-degree angle without kinking or straining the mechanism.

Weather Protection
While our hose reels are built to withstand the elements, a little shade goes a long way. Mount under an eave or in a partially covered area to protect from direct sunlight and extend the plastic components' life.

The Right Way to Install: Step-by-Step

What You'll Need

• Power drill
• 6mm drill bit (for screws)
• 8mm drill bit (for bolts)
• Level
• Pencil
• Safety glasses
• The provided wall bracket, screws, plugs, and bolts

Installation Process

Step 1: Mark Your Holes
Hold the wall bracket against your chosen spot. Use a level to ensure it's perfectly horizontal—a crooked reel causes uneven wear on the hose guide. Mark all six mounting holes with a pencil.

Step 2: Drill Smart
Here's where many people go wrong. You need TWO different hole sizes:

• Four screw holes: Drill 40mm deep using a 6mm bit. These holes will receive the plastic plugs and screws.
• Two bolt holes: Drill 50mm deep using an 8mm bit. These provide the main structural support.

Why the difference? The larger bolt holes carry most of the weight, while the screw holes prevent the bracket from rotating or shifting over time.

Step 3: Insert Plugs First
Push the plastic wall plugs into the four smaller holes until they're flush with the wall surface. If they won't go in easily, the hole might be too small—drill again rather than forcing them.

Step 4: Secure the Bracket—But Don't Overtighten
This is critical: align the bracket with your drilled holes and insert all fasteners, but only hand-tighten at first. Once everything is in place, tighten each fastener gradually in a cross pattern (like tightening car wheel lugs).

The Golden Rule: Stop when the bracket is snug against the wall. Over-tightening cracks the plastic bracket, especially in cold weather. If you feel significant resistance, you've gone too far.

Step 5: Attach the Hose Reel
Mount the reel onto the installed bracket according to the manufacturer's instructions. Connect your input hose to the water source—use thread seal tape on the connections to prevent leaks.

Specifications You Should Know

Understanding your hose reel's capabilities helps you use it correctly:

• Input hose: 1/2" diameter × 6ft length (connects faucet to reel)
• Output hose: 1/2" diameter × 100ft length (the one you pull out)
• Working pressure: 6 bar (87 PSI)
• Burst pressure: 24 bar (348 PSI)

Never exceed the working pressure. High-pressure washers can damage the internal mechanism and void your warranty.

During Installation:

• Mark your drill depth with tape to avoid drilling too deep
• Drill straight, not at an angle
• Clean dust from holes before inserting plugs
• Check that the bracket doesn't wobble before mounting the reel

After Installation:

• Test with water pressure before fully loading the hose
• Retract the hose slowly the first few times to check alignment
• Keep the first 2-3 feet of hose straight when storing—this prevents kinks at the connection point

Common Installation Mistakes to Avoid

Mistake #1: Mounting on Weak Surfaces
Vinyl siding, thin plywood, or hollow walls can't support a full hose reel. Find solid backing or use appropriate heavy-duty anchors rated for at least 50 pounds.

Mistake #2: Ignoring the Level
Even a few degrees off can cause the hose to bunch on one side, creating wear patterns and making retraction difficult.

Mistake #3: Over-Drilling
Holes that are too deep or too wide won't hold the plugs securely. The plugs need friction against the hole walls to work properly.

Mistake #4: Wrong Drill Bits
Using masonry bits for wood or wood bits for concrete gives poor results. Match your bit type to your wall material.

Mistake #5: Solo Installation of Heavy Models
Hose reels with water inside can be heavy. Get help holding the bracket level while you mark holes.
